As you know your Chamber has taken an active role in working with GNO, Inc, Elected officials, and many other business organizations across our state and country in promoting the reform of the Biggert-Waters ACT of 2012 (B-W Act). That Act has had a drastic and unfair effect on raising the premiums we pay for participating in the NFIP. Despite all of our efforts working with the entire federal congressional delegation of Louisiana, to date, Congress and our President have not acted upon our request to review and reform the Act. There has been numerous resolutions and amendments presented, but to date none have made it completely through the legislative process in Washington. We will continue to work with local and state elected officials, GNO, Inc and the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance until this WRONG is corrected!!!
Therefore, in our continued effort to demonstrate the effects that the B-W Act will have and is starting to have, I am reaching out to our Chamber members for assistance in compiling some data. If you have received notice of, or a renewal of your flood insurance policy for either your home or business or both and would be willing to share that information, the Chamber wants to begin compiling this information for the three parishes of St. John the Baptist, St. Charles and St. James.
The information needed is:
Address/ contact phone
Home or Business
Previous Premiums in dollars
New Premiums in Dollars
Photos if available
You can submit the information for multiple properties, home ,business rentals, etc... , each one is an individual case/policy. E-mail or call Chassity at the chamber office at 985-359-9777 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you would prefer to remain Anonymous, you can provide the same information (policy dollar changes, parish, business/home or both) via the Survey link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8DT7XP3
However, please keep in mind that in order for our efforts to be effective the information must be verifiable, anonymous cannot be verified. You can also share this request with neighbors or other businesses that may not be members of the chamber. The more examples we can identify the strong it makes our efforts.
We will compile the results by parish and report it out to our members as well as forward it to the Coalition. We will also send the results in a follow up letter to the President again requesting his leadership by way of executive order to delay the implementation of the B-W Act.
As always, for the latest information on the NFIP, go to the NFIP update box on our website at www.riverregionchamber.org.
Thanks and hope to see many of you at the Golf Tournament.
